Helen Kutch Montgomery 12/16/1917 - 06/08/2016

Helen Kutch Montgomery, 98, died at Hershey Medical Center on June 8, 2016.

One of 12 children, Helen was an adventurous woman who was born on a farm in Forest City PA and moved to Uxbridge, MA, to find work after the Depression. Several years later she moved to NYC where she met her future husband, Otis, a naval medical officer.

They raised their children in many navy ports of call, including Yokohama, Japan. Widowed at 42, Helen was undaunted by the task of raising 3 children under twelve and putting them all through college. She lived a full life and loved to cook, frequently hosting large family dinners. She was an avid gardener and a member of the Elkview Bowling League for over 40 years.

She instilled in her children a compassion for those less fortunate; taught them the value of hard work; and how to sacrifice to achieve a future goal. She is survived by her 3 children: Gary of Hershey, PA; Nancy of Atlanta, GA; and Wayne of Jacksonville, FL.

Helen will be interred next to her husband, “Monty”, in a military graveside service at Arlington National Cemetery on September 22 at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to the Fisher House Foundation, which provides military families with lodging near hospitals where service members are recovering from injuries.

  1. Thinking of you and your siblings right now. I will cherish the memories of her. Her spirit and will was comparable to none. She made me laugh most days, and there were days I returned the favor.

Thank you for letting me be a part of her life and yours.
